RESTORATIVE: Grid-Scale Energy Storage: Imperatives for Accelerating the Green Transition
[Call: Horizon Europe – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks – HORIZON-MSCA-2024-DN-01-01]
RESTORATIVE is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network dedicated to thermo-mechanical grid-scale energy storage systems, such as compressed air energy storage (CAES), liquid air energy storage (LAES) and Carnot batteries. These technologies are key to stabilising variable solar and wind generation, enabling sector coupling and improving energy security, but their large-scale deployment is still limited by technological, economic and policy gaps. The project brings together leading academic and industrial partners across Europe to address these gaps and to train 17 doctoral fellows across three areas: mechanical, chemical and materials engineering for technological innovation; power engineering and computer science for security, reliability and operation; and energy economics, policy and environmental sciences for regulatory, policy and sustainability barriers.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 101227219
